Day 1Port-au-Prince

Arrive at any time. Included arrival transfer from the airport to the hotel.

Today is arrival day, so there are no planned activities until the evening welcome meeting. You are free to arrive at the Port-au-Prince airport at any time where you will be met and transferred to our hotel in the city, which is approx. 30 minutes from the airport.

Your opportunity to meet your CEO and fellow travellers, and learn more about your tour. Opt to join the group for a local meal afterwards. Don't forget to see the notice in the lobby (or ask reception) for the official time and place to meet up with the group.

Day 2Port-au-Prince

Enjoy an included city tour focusing on Haitian history, culture and the vibrant local arts scene. Visit the Iron Market (Marché en Fer). Meet a Vodou priest at Noailles and see the fascinating iron-working community of Croix-des-Bouquets. Fill up on Creole cuisine and culture along the way.

Enjoy an included city tour focusing on the history, unique culture and vibrant local arts scene. See the devastating effects of the 2010 earthquake alongside colourful arts, crafts and traditional goods at the artist community of Atis Rezistans, where, out of the rubble, artists began to create new life, spawning an entire community. Visit the Iron Market (Marché en Fer) for artifacts related to the traditional Vodou (Voodoo) culture in Haiti.

Meet a Vodou priest and find beautiful metal art treasures in the fascinating iron-working community of Noailles at Croix-des-Bouquets. Fill up on delicious Creole cuisine and unique cultural experiences along the way.

With time, opt to get a bird's eye view at the Belvedere on Boutilliers Hills, scanning the Bay of Port-au-Prince and city below.

Day 3Port-au-Prince/Cap-Haïtien

Fly to Cap-Haïtien and visit the famous Citadelle Laferrière, a UNESCO-designated mountaintop fortress. After, visit the sugarcane fields and learn to make Haitian rum.

Fly to Cap-Haïtien, on the northern coast. Visit the famous Citadelle Laferrière and the sugarcane fields. Learn to make famous Haitian rum with a "guildive". This traditional rum distillery (utilizing sugarcane juice) comes from an old French word derived from mispronouncing "kill devil", a welcomed side effect of drinking the rum.

Citadelle Laferrière Visit
Cap-Haïtien

Beginning in 1805, it took 20,000 men five years to build the imposing Citadelle Laferrière high atop a mountain in northern Haiti, 27km (17 mi) south of Cap-Haïtien. This UNESCO World Heritage site is the biggest fortress in the Americas. Walk the grounds, imagine firing one of the 365 cannons, and admire the resilient architecture of this Haitian icon.

Your Foodie Moment: Rum Distillery Visit

Visit a traditional rum distillery (or “guildive”) surrounded by sugar cane fields. Watch workers unload the cane, place it onto a conveyor and pressed to extract the sticky clear liquid. The belt is powered by a steam engine built in France in 1948. See the copper distillery drums and then sample some of the potent rum for which Haiti is famous.

Day 4Cap-Haïtien

Enjoy a walking tour including the cathedral and main city market. Learn to make kasav, a traditional food of the native Taino people.

Explore the city on foot to learn more about the area. With free time in the afternoon, opt to visit the beach on this northern shore.

Enjoy learning how to make traditional kasav (a flat bread), a food of the native Taino people. The experience includes visiting a traditional facility where manyok (yucca) is transformed into kasav, which is eaten with meals as a flatbread. This dish and its preparation comes directly from the native Taino people who first inhabited the islands before Columbus' arrival.

Your Foodie Moment: Kasav Making Demonstration

Visit a local kitchen to learn how to turn manioc (yucca) into kasav, a type of flatbread. Learn the history and preparation of this traditional dish, passed down for generations from the native Taino people who first inhabited the islands before Columbus' arrival.

Day 5Cap-Haïtien/Jacmel

Fly back to Port-au-Prince and continue to Jacmel. This town is known for its vibrant art scene, carnival celebrations, and sandy beaches. Take a city tour focused on the art community here. Pop into artists' studios to view the local papier mâché creations and wander past colourful mosaics on every wall.

Visit the most famous attraction in the area, Bassin-Bleu. After a fun ride and a hike down hill, arrive at the natural blue pools and waterfalls. Jump in and cool off.

Day 7Jacmel/Port-Salut

Visit a local grassroots project, the G Adventures-supported Art Creation Foundation for Children. The program teaches at-risk children different types of traditional art while providing meals and a "second home". Enjoy a homemade meal here and learn about the great work this organization is doing. Continue on to Port-Salut.

The Art Creation Foundation for Children has a simple core belief – if a child can make a papier-mâché bowl or bird, s/he will never have to beg, sell their body or starve. Practical and powerful. Visit the program and meet some of the 100+ at-risk children and youth who are now creating art, going to school and eating three meals a day.

Share a homemade meal and learn more about this valuable community-building initiative in Jacmel.

Day 8Port-Salut

Visit Grotte Marie-Jeanne caves in nearby Port-a-Piment. Explore the cave with a guide and discover unique underground landscapes and massive caverns. In the afternoon, return to Port-Salut for sunset.

The Grotte Marie Jeanne is one of the largest cave systems in the Caribbean, located on a hill about a 20 min walk above Port-à-Piment. Bring your flashlight/torch, follow your guide and try not to be put off by the bat guano, spiders and scorpions. Marvel at the dramatic rock sculptures, the twin 'Two Candles' stalagmites, and learn more about the natural history of the region.
