On this optional excursion, we will visit the famous Museu Dalí. The Dalí Theatre-Museum in the Plaça Gala i Salvador Dalí. Salvador Dalí himself had the Museum built on the remains of the Municipal Theatre of Figueres, which was destroyed by fire at the end of the Civil War. Dalí was looking for a suitable place to exhibit his works and considered that the best place was in his hometown. The Dalí Theatre-Museum was inaugurated on 28 September 1974 and is considered by many to be the largest surrealist object in the world. This is because the building itself is a work of art, conceived and designed by Salvador Dalí himself. In the Dalí Museum there are some 1,500 works by the artist, including paintings, sculptures, jewellery, drawings, compositions, etc. The Dalí Theatre-Museum also houses the crypt where Dalí is buried. After the visit, and some free time for lunch we will continue our guided tour to get to know the city and its fascinating landmarks. Moderate walking – Must See
Take advantage of this excursion visiting Tarragona, on the opposite side of the Costa Brava, in Costa Dorada, where we learn about the legends of the people who lived there and admire some of the best-preserved Roman ruins on the Iberian Peninsula. Also, we will see the Cathedral of Santa Tecla, built on Roman, Visigoth and Arab sites. Its rose window is made up of 12 beams, a work of art! From there, we will head towards the Roman circus and amphitheatre, both declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, here you can imagine what the chariot races and gladiator fights were like more than 2000 years ago! Our guided tour continues to the Balcony of the Mediterranean, a 40-metre-high viewpoint from where we will have a breath taking view of the Mare Nostrum. Don't forget to touch the railing - they say it's lucky! Following some free time for lunch on the Rambla Nova, it is on to the Poblet Monastery. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a superb example of a Cistercian monastery with its evocative cloisters and harmoniously proportioned 12th century chapter house Full day - Minimal walking - Historical interest
