Arrive Cusco at any time. There are no planned activities so check into the hotel and enjoy the city. Our best advice for exploring Cusco is to wear a comfortable pair of shoes, arm yourself with a city map, and set off to explore!

Your opportunity to meet your CEO and fellow travellers, and learn more about your tour. Opt to join the group for a local meal afterwards. Don't forget to see the notice in the lobby (or ask reception) for the official time and place to meet up with the group.

Day 2Cusco

Full-day guided tour of the Sacred Valley and Ollantaytambo ruins along with a visit to a Planeterra weaving project in a local community. Visit the G Adventures-supported Sacred Valley Community Restaurant in Huchuy Qosco, an indigenous village for lunch. Shopping opportunities at a local market before returning to Cusco.

Travel with our local guide through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit a G Adventures-supported women's weaving co-op, the impressive Pisac ruins and the colourful artisan market (market days only). The day trip finishes in the picturesque village of Ollantaytambo, site of another large Inca ruin.

Visit Huchuy Qosco, an indigenous village previously bypassed by the tourism industry, now running the G Adventures-supported Sacred Valley Community Restaurant and tour in their own village.

After touring the site return to Cusco for the night.

Your G for Good Moment: Ccaccaccollo Community and Women's Weaving Co-op visit

Visit the Ccaccaccollo community centre which G Adventures travellers' donations helped create in 2005, thereby enabling local women to sell traditional textiles to travellers. See local weaving and dyeing techniques used to create garments and souvenirs, and learn how the Planeterra weaving co-operative has impacted the community and those who visit it. This includes the purchase of alpacas to provide a steady supply of wool, looms, and sewing machines as well as several training courses on production, sales and small business management.

Pisac Ruins Guided Tour
Pisac

Tour the fascinating hilltop citadel of Pisac, an Incan ruin with plunging gorges, a ceremonial centre, and winding agriculture terracing that's still in use today. Be captivated by this truly amazing site sitting amid sweeping green valleys and mountain peaks. Explore the back of the site to see a pocketed cliff across Kitamayo Gorge, which once contained hundreds of Inca tombs.

Your G for Good Moment: Parwa Community Restaurant the Sacred Valley

Contribute to sustainable tourism in Huchuy Qosqo, a small village of 65 families in the Sacred Valley, by eating at the Parwa Community Restaurant. Learn how the resident-run restaurant was kickstarted by G Adventures and the Multilateral Investment Fund, to become a successful farm-to-table program that boosts the local economy and several spin-off microenterprises.

Ollantaytambo Ruins Guided Tour

Tour the town and fortress of Ollantaytambo with a local guide. Take a step back in time at this Inca archaeological site; it still shows signs of its former glory, including agricultural terraces, a Temple Hill, and storehouses. Learn how the area, overlooking the Urubamba River Valley, was an important stronghold during warfare between the Spanish and Incas.

Day 3Cusco/Salkantaypampa

Transfer to the start of the trail and begin the Salkantay Trek. Stunning views and Inca ruins fill the days as the hike past the striking peaks of Salkantay, Humantay, and Ausangate, among others. Several high passes are traversed the highest point reaching 4,600m (15,092 ft) before descending into valleys nestled in the mountains. Nights are spent camping under the stars. Enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery and breathtaking views as the trek descends from the heights of the Andes to the lush subtropics surrounding Machu Picchu.

Depart in the morning from Cusco towards the town of Mollepata for the start of the Salkantay trek.

Enjoy G Adventures-supported handmade biodegradable soap products, for use on our treks. The purpose of this G Adventures for Good project was to empower local Cusqueña women to start their own business while lessening the environmental impact. Planeterra provided $10000 of seed funding for two young entrepreneurs to register their biodegradable products in order to sell to the tourism industry. "Esencia Andina" is now a successful business that produces biodegradable soaps, detergents, and natural products for use by travellers, guides, porters, and cooks on our treks. G Adventures is their biggest client, purchasing hundreds of their products per month!

Salkantay Full Trek - Day 1
Mollepata – Salkantaypampa4h-5h 6-7km

Start trekking accompanied by support staff and horses/mules, the trek passes by spectacular views (weather permitting of course) of the majestic Salkantay Peak, as well as towards other snow-capped mountains. Head down into the Apurimac Valley and stop in Sayllapata (3,200m/10,498 ft) for lunch. Continue on to the first campsite near the village of Salkantaypampa (3,900m/12,795 ft).

Day 4Salkantaypampa/Andenes

During the second day of the Salkantay Trek reach the highest point of the trek and enjoy the breathtaking views of Umantay and Apu Salkantay.

Salkantay Full Trek - Day 2
Salkantaypampa – Chaullay8h-9h 18km

Watch the scenery change from dry mountain landscapes to more tropical surroundings on the second day of the trek. After an early start, ascend past snowy peaks to the highest point of the trek, at a pass reaching 4,600 metres (15,092 ft) above sea level. From here the views are spectacular towards the mountains of Umantay and Apu Salkantay. Descend from the pass and have lunch before continuing on to set up camp near Chaullay at 3,200m (10,499 ft).

Day 5Chaullay/Sahuayaco

Continue the trek, passing through the town of Collpabamba en route to Lucmabamba.

Begin early again and trek past the town of Collpabamba and through lush and beautiful scenery, keeping an eye out for flora and fauna along the way. Make camp near Playa Sahuayaco (2,100m/6,890 ft).

Day 6Sahuayaco/Aguas Calientes

The final day of trekking leads to the town of Santa Teresa. Catch the train in the afternoon to Aguas Calientes.

Salkantay Full Trek - Day 4
Sahuayaco – Santa Teresa7h-8h 13km

Trek down into the semi-tropical surroundings and to the town of Santa Teresa on the final day of the Salkantay route. Finish the trek in the nearby town of Aguas Calientes, put those feet up and take a well-deserved rest.

Day 7Aguas Calientes/Cusco

Enjoy a guided tour of Machu Picchu. Optional visit to the Inca Bridge and return to Cusco in the evening.

Rise early to take advantage of viewing Machu Picchu in the early morning light. This is the best time to view the 'Lost City of the Incas'. Join the local guide for a detailed interpretation of the site and Inca history without the pressure of other tour groups that arrive at midday.

Later in the afternoon return by train to Ollantaytambo and transfer by van to Cusco, arriving in the evening.

Inca Bridge Visit

Use any leftover energy from your Machu Picchu hike to visit the Inca Bridge site nearby (thought by some to be a secret back entrance to Machu Picchu). Trek up to the bridge that's cleaving to a 579m (1,900 ft) cliff, and soak in amazing views of cloud forest along the way.
