The village of Mto wa Mbu offers visitors an opportunity to experience traditional ways of life among small communities in Tanzania. You'll spend the morning exploring the village and trying local dishes. Then, under the guidance of a local artist, try your hand at traditional painting. Your instructor will show you techniques and describe influences and materials they use to create the items you may have seen for sale in local markets.
Take part in a cultural walk to learn about life in this East African town. Mto wa Mbu has attracted some 18,000 residents from 120 different tribes. During the two-hour tour, visit the community's local market, go right to the farmer's fields, see how huts are constructed, and meet artisans in their shops.
Afterwards, sit down with our new friends and enjoy a traditional lunch of meat and plantains.

The Olduvai Gorge is a steep ravine in the Great Rift Valley of Tanzania. It is one of the world’s most important paleoanthropological sites. Beginning in 1931, excavations by Louis Leakey revealed evidence of early man dating back nearly 2 million years. Visit the Olduvai museum and see bone fossils and fragments of ancient stone tools. This UNESCO World Heritage site provides an intriguing glimpse into the origin and evolution of man in these Serengeti Plains of Africa.
This is the reason you came to Africa. Charge your camera, grab your binoculars, and set out on safari. Your eagle-eyed driver will keep an eye out for wildlife – buffaloes, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, and more. Tanzania’s Serengeti tends to be less crowded than some of Kenya’s reserves, so enjoy the scenery, the vast expanse of the grasslands, the play of light and shadow, and the up-close look at wild Africa.
Take in the wildlife of the Serengeti. Opt to view the park from a different perspective on an optional sunrise hot-air balloon ride. Or head out with the group for morning and afternoon wildlife-viewing excursions. If luck is on your side the group may glimpse all of Africa’s “big five”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo.
If you have pre-booked a Serengeti Balloon Safari, your flight will be early in the morning. You will miss the morning wildlife safari drive, but you will have a much better view from above.

Spirited aloft in a hot-air balloon, view the wildlife and terrain of the Serengeti that only the birds see. Enjoy a champagne breakfast and keep that shutter-finger good and limber—you’ll be using it plenty over the course of your hour in the air.
Head out on a morning safari through the landscape of the Serengeti and then indulge in a picnic breakfast. Next stop is the Ngorongoro Crater where the group will have lunch along the rim. Then, travel into the caldera itself for a safari drive in search of zebras and more. Afterwards, travel to our safari lodge in Karatu.

Keep your eyes peeled and camera ready to capture a pride of lions or a lone leopard walking along the crater floor.
Tour a local coffee farm in the morning to learn about the cultivation and production of the bean in this area. Have lunch back at the lodge and then take advantage of a free afternoon to relax by the pool and enjoy yourself.
Find out where your cup of java comes from. Visit a local farm to learn more about the process of making coffee, from harvesting, to husking, drying, and roasting the beans before finally being able to enjoy that fresh cup of coffee. Engage with the local farmers and immerse yourself in the aromas and flavors of freshly brewed coffee as you gain a newfound appreciation for Tanzania’s prized export.
Relax by the pool, and soak up the Rift Valley views.
Travel as a group to the Great Rift Valley, the place where the African tectonic plate split in two. Head to a Maasai village and chat with locals and learn about the G Adventures–supported Clean Cookstoves project, which seeks to reduce household air pollution. Afterwards, lend a hand during the installation of a new stove in a village boma. Then, return to Arusha for a free afternoon. In the evening enjoy a farewell dinner together.

Visit a Maasai village in the Monduli District and witness the benefits of the G Adventures-supported Clean Cookstove Project. In Tanzania, 95% of people rely on cooking with wood and coal. Women and girls spend hours walking to collect wood every day (making them vulnerable to assault and unable to use their time to go to school). Indoor smoke from open-fire stoves causes cancer, emphysema, pneumonia, blindness, and burns. Take a guided tour of these villages and meet the women that have been trained as stove engineers, visit bomas (traditional homes), and observe (or get your hands dirty) by helping the Stove Team build a stove in a home. See the beneficial impact of the clean-burning stoves on the health and daily lives of the Maasai villagers, especially the women.
Enjoy an easy bike ride on single-track trails through the farming villages on the outskirts of Arusha. Meet local Tanzanian farmers, and enjoy a glimpse into the daily life of rural farming communities.
Browse the Mask and Carving gallery highlighting work from all over the continent, and admire the traditional and contemporary paintings on display. Shop for exquisite precious and semi-precious stones, or hand crafted jewellery, or find an antique for your collection at home.
