National Geographic Explorer, Grant Recipient, Ecologist, Social Scientist

Chloe Nunn is a marine ecologist and social scientist whose work explores the relationships between coastal ecosystems, human well-being, and community resilience. Through her roles as a researcher, educator, facilitator, and consultant — including collaborations with initiatives such as the United Nations Ocean Decade — she works to advance transformative ocean action in support of sustainable development.

A National Geographic Explorer since 2018, Chloe combines scientific research with storytelling, photography, and public engagement to foster deeper connections between people and the marine environment. She is an accomplished writer, photographer, and public speaker, and continues to support the UK Polar Network while coordinating her local National Geographic Explorers Hub.

Chloe received a grant from the National Geographic Society to support her master's field research in Uummannaq, Greenland, where she examined the resilience of social-ecological systems in the face of local environmental and societal change. She also contributed to and helped lead Constructive Visions, a National Geographic–funded book project that imagines pathways toward a more sustainable future.

Beyond her research, Chloe is passionate about exploring new cultures and environments through travel. A competitive sailor, she also leads a women's sailing team, reflecting her enduring connection to the ocean both professionally and personally.
