Paul Colbourne

Historian, Battlefield Guide

Paul Colbourne has held a life-long interest in military history, particularly in the events of the Western Front. For over 30 years, he has visited the battlefields of northern Europe and, in 2019, he earned a master’s degree in the history of Britain and World War I from the University of Wolverhampton. Paul works with a wide variety of groups—from schools to military personnel—helping them study and understand what it was like for soldiers on the ground during wartime. He is an accredited member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides and is now the proud holder of Badge Number 113.

Paul is also a speaker for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Program, as well as a volunteer for their project Eyes On, Hands On, an initiative to maintain war graves across the UK. He is an active member of several historical societies, including the Western Front Association, the Great War Group and the Hawthorn Ridge Crater Association. Outside of his historical pursuits, Paul follows Newcastle United Football Club and loves spending time with his family, especially his 3 young grandchildren, with whom he one day hopes to share his passion for history.
