Teresa Fisher

National Geographic Author, Travel Writer

Teresa Fisher is a National Geographic author and freelance travel writer based in Portsmouth, UK. She has been leading expeditions for National Geographic for more than a decade, specialising in European cities, adventure travel, and alpine regions, while also covering diverse destinations around the world.

Her work has taken her to some of the planet’s most remote and ecologically rich environments. Highlights include tracking orangutans in eastern Sabah, travelling by dugout canoe in search of jaguars in Guyana, backpacking across Japan, and joining the first team of husky mushers to cross from Finland into Russia. These experiences reflect her focus on immersive, field-based storytelling that blends culture, nature, and exploration.

Alongside her expedition work, Teresa has built an extensive career in travel publishing. She is the author of more than 30 guidebooks and several children’s educational books covering destinations across Europe and Asia, published by outlets including Lonely Planet, Frommer’s, Fodor’s, and National Geographic Traveller Switzerland.

Her professional background also includes work with Sotheby’s in London, as well as experience living in Germany, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, and Taiwan, where she worked as a cross-cultural communications trainer.

Teresa is a member of the British Guild of Travel Writers and The Arts Society, a Royal Horticultural Society medallist, and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
