Around the world in 5 New Year's Eve cocktail recipes

At midnight on December 31, revellers around the world will raise a glass to ring in a new year — but what will be in that glass will vary widely. To help you celebrate, we've put together a list of five cocktails from around the world to try this New Year's Eve, plus guides on how to make them. Thanks to the Drake One Fifty in Toronto for the video recipes and we wish you all way better travel adventures in the coming year!

1. Sazerac

A close cousin to the Old Fashioned, this enduring cocktail is a bold, aromatic choice for those hoping to have a livelier and more adventurous travel year. It originally hails from Louisiana and was crowned as the official cocktail of New Orleans in 2008. Hear, hear!

3. Toronto

To be truly authentic when ordering this cocktail, try dropping the second T in its name. When making it yourself, it's important to remember that Canadian rye whisky is a must. Toast with a Toronto and you're sure to have a friendlier and more polite travel year!

Country of origin: Either Canada or England, but named after the Canadian city What you'll need: Canadian whiskey, sugar, Fernet Branca, Angostura bitters Try it for yourself in: Canada

4. Negroni

Have your heart set on Italy on nothing but Italy this year? Sounds perfectly reasonable as it's the birthplace of many tasty treats. By demanding something stronger than his usual, Count Camillo Negroni inspired one of the most popular cocktails of all time. We hope your travel year includes plenty of aperitivo time in your Italian city of choice!

5. Pisco sour

Whether you hope to hike the Inca Trail or just chill at a thatch-covered Amazon lodge this year, you'll enjoy the tart and frothy freshness of a pisco sour. The star of this cocktail is the country's famed grape-distilled spirit that dates back to the 16th century. The sour itself was crafted by an American bartender, Victor Vaughen Morris, at his bar in Lima in 1916.

Country of origin: Peru What you'll need: Pisco, egg white, lemon juice, simple syrup Try it for yourself in: Peru
